AMERICAN PSYCHO

AMERICAN PSYCHO

TYPOGRAPHICAL MEDITATIONS

INDEIGN | PHOTOSHOP

This booklet is a typographic exploration of select excerpts from American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, visually interpreting the psychological unraveling of the novel’s protagonist, Patrick Bateman. Through expressive typography, the design reflects Bateman’s deteriorating mental state assembled in an accordion style booklet

Transitioning from structured, restrained compositions to increasingly fragmented and chaotic arrangements. The deliberate manipulation of type—ranging from the controlled to distorted letterforms—mirrors the protagonist’s descent into psychosis, offering a visceral reading experience that bridges literature and visual design.

This project demonstrates an experimental approach to typography as a storytelling device, leveraging hierarchy, spacing, and distortion to evoke emotion and psychological tension. By treating text as both content and form, the booklet transforms Bateman’s internal monologue into a visual manifestation of instability, blurring the line between order and disorder, control and collapse.
